What Campers Say About Us

In Laskey’s camp, which ran from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12 this year, everything is just as it would be if you are a big leaguer. There are clubhouse attendants to wash your clothes after each day and stock up your locker room with snacks, lunch and whatever drinks you need to get through the day.
There are former big leaguers there to coach you, telling you tales of what The Show was truly like and treating you exactly like they were treated when they played — for better or for worse.

My baseball career ended in 1976 on my Jr. Varsity High School team, when I dutifully attended all practices and ended up getting into only the final game of the year. I played one defensive inning at first base (one putout, no errors) and was on deck to bat when our season ended.
I did become exceptional at keeping the scorebook and tossing the regular first baseman a ball when he came off the field every inning so he could throw infield practice the next.
When I was in college I sent off for a San Francisco Fantasy Camps flier, but set it aside as I hadn’t yet reached the 25 year old age limit.
Finally, in 2008 I had the wherewithal to attend my first camp strictly as a bucket list item, the second camp run by Bill Laskey. While it was occasionally daunting to be a rookie, my team made it to the championship game, and I can honestly claim that Vida Blue taught me to pitch. As with so many bucket list attendees through the years, I was hooked.
I’ve attended every camp in Scottsdale that Bill has hosted since, with the exception of 2012, and also two at Oracle Park. In addition to a great week of playing baseball, the camaraderie, the stories, Kangaroo Court, and the wonderful support staff make this my favorite week of the year. There is nothing like putting on the uniform and going and playing a couple of games of baseball with other aficionados, and then hanging out talking, er, stuff, in the evenings.
Bill Laskey and the Big League Coaching staff provide a stellar experience that feels like a big league clubhouse. If you love baseball, this is the week for you!

I have been going to major league fantasy camps, including the San Francisco Giants, for a decade. When Bill Laskey introduced Big League Coaching Camp, I was worried it wouldn’t have the same “Big League” vibe. I was wrong!
It was a beautiful week of baseball. Everything from the ex-Major Leaguers who coach to the trainers, and facilities as well as the Special Guests (2001 World Series hero Luis Gonzalez and 2006 N.L Batting Champ, Freddie Sanchez) was top notch. Bill’s personal attention to detail really makes it a memorable week. I am waiting for the dates to be posted so I can sign up for next year”.

A week of fun playing baseball, many laughs, new friends and it went by so fast!
Can’t wait for next year and I already have my brother to join me! BLC what a great experience you have to take it off your bucket list!

I wanted to express my gratitude and appreciation for Big League Coaching Fantasy Camp I attended this year. I have attended 4 SF Giants fantasy camps and others in the past and although they were great experiences, this camp was exceptional. Bill Laskey assembled terrific coaches that took great care with their players and allowed much more individual attention. The accomodations were extremely nice. The facilities were Major League caliber and the trainers took great care of those (most of us) who needed it. At my age, it is important to not go home on a stretcher. This year’s special guests were also phenomenal. I can’t think of a better experience than Big League Coaching Fantasy Camp.
In my humble opinion, I enjoyed it most because of the 45 or so campers, as opposed to 90 plus. I received much greater attention and was made to feel “a big part of the camp”.

I play baseball throughout the year, and without a doubt my favorite times have been in Bill Laskey’s camps. The veterans are such good folks, so it’s always fun no matter who your teammates are. And while I certainly like to compete, and we obviously all want to do our best, Bill and the coaches maintain a level of respect and responsible competitive spirit that makes the week fun for everyone. And I love breaking out different uniforms for each game.

Honestly, even though the baseball is fun, some of the best times are off the field, in the bar or wine tasting in a suite and talking with the coaches, meeting people during van rides to and from the stadium, and the team and camp dinners. I’m definitely signing up for the next Big League Coaching camp.

My dad has been to a gazillion of Tree’s camps, and will keep going until he can’t walk anymore (and probably then). My brother and I have attended multiple ones with him, and enjoyed the feeling of being major league ballplayers. Right down to the ice tubs and beer after a doubleheader, LOL. If only I could find a way to keep from getting nicked in Kangaroo Court.
